BARRETTE & BRUNELLE LEAD RIC WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD TO SIXTH PLACE FINISH AT SILFEN INVITATIONAL

Providence, R.I.--The Rhode Island College women’s outdoor track & field squad notched a sixth place finish at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday. The Anchorwomen finished with 76.5 points at the 17-team event. Host Connecticut College took home the team title with a score of 107.5.

 

RIC junior Destinee Barrette (Warwick, RI) won the hammer (49.83m), notched a 15th place finish in the shot (10.28m) and was 13th in the discus (29.80m).

Sophomore Melanie Brunelle (Warwick, RI) won the triple jump (11.22m), finished second in the high jump (1.58m), took third in the long jump (5.54m) and seventh in the 100m hurdles (16.87). She also finished third in the 100m hurdles (15.70) and ran the anchor leg of the 4x100m relay team that posted a second place finish (51.40).

Sophomore Eleni Grammas (Cranston, RI) recorded a second place finish in the 100m (12.71) and was eighth in the 200m (27.98). She also had the second leg of the 4x100m relay team that posted a second place finish (51.40).

 

Sophomore Nicole Grammas (Cranston, RI) recorded a sixth place finish in the 400m (1:01.44) and had a 13th place finish in the 200m (28.87). RIC freshman Jacklyn Xavier (Cumberland, RI) took home fifth place in the 100m (12.95) and was 25th in the 200m (28.92).

 

Sophomore Margaret McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI) finished 12th in the 3,000m steeplechase (13:10.11) and was 41st in the 800m (2:32.64).

 

Freshman Oluwafunmibi Yusuff (Providence, RI) finished third in the hammer (37.23m), 16th in the discus (27.26m) and was 18th in the shot (9.90m)d.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2017 Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by MIT on Saturday, April 22 (10 a.m.).
