PLYMOUTH STATE ENDS RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE'S SEASON WITH DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP

Plymouth, N.H.--Rhode Island College saw the 2017 season come to an end with a pair of losses to Plymouth State in Little East Conference softball action on Saturday afternoon.

 

 RIC (8-20, 3-11 LEC) was led by sophomore catcher Emma Simmons (Saunderstown, RI), who went 3-for-6 with a run scored in the losses.

 

 The Panthers (20-15, 8-6 LEC) ripped off eight runs, highlighted by a five-run third, to defeat RIC, 8-0 (five innings), in the opener. PSU junior right fielder Nina Murray (Saugus, MA) went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, three RBI and a triple in the win. Freshman Caitlyn Miller (Lee, NH) earned the win (9-5), allowing just four hits in four innings. RIC freshman starter Hailey Levesque (Westport, MA) took the loss (1-6).

The hosts scored four times in the second inning en route to winning the nightcap, 7-2. Sophomore third baseman Cristin Chiaverini (Pawtucket, RI) went 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Anchorwomen. PSU sophomore left fielder Cassidy Emerson (Concord, NH) went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while catcher Haley Birch (Salem, CT) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of RBI.

 

Sophomore starter Hannah Seidner (Pembroke, NH) earned the win (6-2), allowing two runs on 10 hits, to go along with four strikeouts in five innings of work. RIC sophomore starter Briana Gough (West Warwick, RI) took the loss (2-8).
