JEPHTE WAGNAC NAMED LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE

MENíS ROOKIE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College freshman Jephte Wagnac (Providence, RI) was named the Little East Conference Menís Rookie Field Athlete of the Year for his performance in outdoor track & field this spring.

 

Wagnac earned All-New England honors in the 400m hurdles with a second place finish (53.69) at the New England Div. III Championships on May 6. He also placed 18th in the triple jump (12.80m). Wagnac, who was named the squadís team MVP last week, is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation in the 400m hurdles, with the top 20 in the country earning bids to the NCAA National Championships at the conclusion of the regular season.

 

Wagnac earned N.E. Alliance honors (and was the Little East champion) in the 400m hurdles with a first place finish (53.06) at the Alliance Championships on April 29. He also placed ninth in the triple jump (12.89m). His effort in the 400m hurdles was a new Alliance and Little East record for the outdoor championships.

 

 

 

This spring, Wagnac placed first in the 400m hurdles (54.88) and second in the triple jump (13.00m) at MITís Sean Collier Invitational on April 22.

 

Wagnac placed third in the triple jump (13.46m) and 12th in the long jump (5.81m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 15. He ran the opening leg of the 4x400m relay team that placed third (3:30.11) and had the third leg of the second place 4x100m relay team (44.75). Wagnac also finished second in the 400m hurdles (54.90).

 

He placed third in the 400m hurdles (56.13) and finished sixth in the triple jump (12.98m) AICís Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 8.

 

Wagnac was named the Little Eastís Rookie Field Athlete of the Week three times this spring.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the N.E. Open Championships, hosted by Williams on Friday and Saturday, May 12-13.
