BRUNELLE LEADS ANCHORWOMEN AT
NEW ENGLAND OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Williamstown, Mass.—The Rhode Island College women’s track & field team competed at the 2017 New England Open Championships, hosted by Williams on Friday and Saturday, May 12-13. The event featured competitors from Div. I, II and III institutions.

 

The Anchorwomen did not score as a team. Northeastern took home the team title with 102.50 points among a field of 40 institutions.

 

 

 Sophomore Melanie Brunelle

 

Sophomore Melanie Brunelle (Warwick, RI) placed 11th in the triple jump (11.27m) and 14th in the long jump (5.26m). Brunelle is currently ranked No. 16 in the nation in the triple jump.

 

Junior Destinee Barrette (Warwick, RI) finished 11th in the hammer (50.81m). Barrette is currently ranked No. 15 in the nation in that event.

 

Sophomore Eleni Grammas (Cranston, RI) finished 14th in the 100m (12.35) and 24th in the 200m (25.97). She is currently ranked No. 19 in the nation in the 100m. Freshman Chevell Burgess (Providence, RI) recorded a 24th place finish in the 400m hurdles (1:06.29).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the MIT Last Chance Meet on Thursday, May 18 (10 a.m.).
