MELANIE BRUNELLE EARNS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS
AND BREAKS RIC RECORD IN THE TRIPLE JUMP AT
NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Geneva, Ohio--Rhode Island College sophomore Melanie Brunelle (Warwick, RI) placed eighth in the triple jump to earn All-American honors with a new program-record leap of 11.93m at the 2017 NCAA Div. III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Mount Union at the SPIRE Institute on Saturday afternoon.

 

She finished eighth among a field of 22 national qualifiers in the triple jump event, with the top eight garnering All-American accolades. 

 

Brunelle, the teamís MVP and Little East Conference Womenís Field Athlete of the Year, was competing in her second NCAA Track & Field National Championship event as she took home 10th place in the triple jump at the 2016 NCAA Div. III Indoor Track & Field Championship.

 

 

 

This spring, Brunelle won the Little East Championship and earned N.E. Alliance honors in the triple jump (11.76m) at the Alliance Championships, hosted by Westfield State on April 29. She also earned N.E. Alliance honors with a first place finish in the high jump (1.57m) and a fourth place finish in the long jump (5.3m). She grabbed All-New England honors with a fifth place finish in the triple jump (11.57m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships, hosted by Williams on May 5-6.

 

Brunelle also earned All-New England honors as she recorded a seventh place finish in the long jump (5.34m) and ran the anchor leg of the seventh place 4x100m relay (48.66). Brunelle placed 11th in the triple jump (11.27) at the N.E. Open Championships, hosted by Williams on May 12-13 and captured first place in the triple jump (11.49m) at the MIT Last Chance Meet on May 18.
