RIC'S DON TENCHER RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS JAMES J. CORBETT MEMORIAL AWARD
AT NACDA CONVENTION

Orlando, Fla.-Rhode Island College Director of Athletics Donald E. Tencher received the James J. Corbett Memorial Award at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) & Affiliates Convention at the World Center Marriott Resort this afternoon.

 

Tencher is the 51st recipient of the award, which is the highest honor one can receive in collegiate athletic administration. He was also named an Under Armour Div. III Athletic Director of the Year for the fifth time in his career.

 

 

 

The Corbett Award is presented annually to the collegiate administrator who "through the years has most typified Corbett's devotion to intercollegiate athletics and worked unceasingly for its betterment." Corbett, athletics director at Louisiana State University, was NACDA's first president in 1965. Additionally, Tencher received an honorary degree from the Sports Management Institute (SMI), an educational institute sponsored by NACDA and the universities of Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Southern California and Texas.

 

In addition to building the Rhode Island College athletic program to one of the best in the region over the past 20-plus years, Tencher has held a variety of positions within NACDA as currently serves as the organization's secretary.
