LEAZES LEADS ANCHORWOMEN IN LOSS TO PANTHERS

Plymouth, N.H.--The Rhode Island College womenís swimming team dropped a 109.0-90.0 decision at Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon.

 

Senior Abbie Leazes (Providence, RI) earned three first place finishes for RIC, taking first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:29.81), the 500-yard freestyle (6:01.93) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:41.59). She also swam the anchor leg of the second place 200-yard medley relay (2:13.88).

 

Junior Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) recorded a pair of first place finishes for the Anchorwomen, winning the 100-yard butterfly (1:11.84) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.10). Curran also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:20.55) and swam the third leg of the teamís 200-yard medley relay (2:13.88), which tallied a second place finish.

Freshman Vanessa Dao (Revere, MA) took home first place in the 50-yard backstroke (34.16) and recorded a third place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (29.82). She also registered a third place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:16.23). Dao swam the opening leg of the 200-yard medley relay (2:22.54), which notched a second place finish.

 

Sophomore Courtney Payne (Waterford, CT) tallied a third place finish for the Anchorwomen in both the 100-yard freestyle (1:11.26) and the 50-yard breaststroke (39.51), as well as a fourth place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (7:02.38). Payne also swam the second leg of the second place 200-yard medley relay (2:22.54).

 

Freshman Jianna Hodge (North Providence, RI) recorded a first place finish in the 50-yard butterfly (43.45), a third place finish in the 50-yard backstroke (45.43) and a fourth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (39.50).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Husson on Saturday, Jan. 14 (Noon).
