Westfield, Mass.-The Rhode Island College women’s swimming team fell to Westfield State, 120.0-90.0 on Saturday afternoon. The Anchorwomen won 10 of the 16 events at the meet.


Rhode Island College (0-7) was led by senior Abbie Leazes (Providence, RI), who took home wins in the 500-yard freestyle (6:08.42) and the 400-yard IM (5:34.27).

Junior Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) notched a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:21.55) and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:19.82). RIC freshman Jianna Hodge (North Providence, RI) placed first in the 50-yard butterfly . Freshman Vanessa Dao (Revere, MA) recorded a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:15.60) and was third in the 1,650-yard freestyle (24:18.23).


Westfield State (6-3) was led by sophomore Shannon Fitzsimmons (Andover, MA), who took first place in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:48.30) and the mixed 100-yard freestyle (1:00.82). Freshman Carly Thibodeau (Mendon, MA) took home win in the 50-yard backstroke (32.75) and the 100-Yard butterfly (1:16.65) for the Owls.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2017 Little East Conference Championships, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, Feb. 4 (11 a.m.).
