ANCHORWOMEN FINISH SEVENTH
AT LITTLE EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS

North Dartmouth, Mass.-The Rhode Island College women’s swimming team notched a seventh place (seven teams) finish at the 2017 Little East Conference Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon. The Anchorwomen finished with 58 points, while Keene State took home the team championship with 557 total points on the day.

 

Senior Abbie Leazes (Providence, RI) recorded three top-10 finishes to lead the way for RIC. Leazes took eighth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:09.40), finished ninth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:45.68) and was eighth in the 400-yard individual medley (5:16.93). She also swam the anchor leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay that notched a fifth place finish (4:14.20).

 

Junior Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) notched a pair of top-10 finishes for the Anchorwomen, taking eighth in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.92) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:51.54). Curran swam the third leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay that finished in fifth place (4:14.20).

 

 

 

Freshman Vanessa Dao (Revere, MA) was 13th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.10) and 17th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:05.15). Dao swam the opening leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay that recorded a fifth place finish (4:14.20).

 

Sophomore Courtney Payne (Waterford, CT) posted a 13th place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke and swam the second leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay that notched a fifth place finish (4:14.20).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to the New England Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships, hosted by the University of Rhode Island on Feb. 18-19.
