BRUNELLE AND BARRETTE EARN

ALL-NEW ENGLAND HONORS

Cambridge, Mass.-Sophomore Melanie Brunelle (Warwick, RI) earned All-New England honors with a fifth place finish in the triple jump (11.42m) and as part of the fourth place 4x200m relay (1:46.92) to lead the Rhode Island College Women’s Indoor Track & Field team to a 17th place tie (29 teams) at the 2017 New England Division III Championships, hosted by MIT on Saturday. The Anchorwomen finished with a score of 13.0, while host MIT won the championship (149.0).

 

Brunelle also placed 10th in the high jump (1.56m) and was 14th in the long jump (5.08m).

Junior Destinee Barrette (Warwick, RI) earned All-New England honors, taking fifth in the weight throw (15.65m).

Freshman Emma Landroche (Warwick, RI) earned All-New England honors as part of the fourth place 4x200m relay (1:46.92). She also finished 25th in the 200m (27.04). Xavier and Landroche each ran a leg of the 4x200m relay team (1:46.92) that finished fourth.

 

Sophomore Eleni Grammas (Cranston, RI) earned All-New England honors as part of the fourth place 4x200m relay (1:46.92). She also finished in 12th place in the 60m (8.11) and was 12th in the 200m (26.63). Fellow sophomore Nicole Grammas (Cranston, RI) had a 10th place finish in the 400m (1:00.37).

 

RIC sophomore Margaret McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI) finished 15th in the 1,000m (3:09.19). Freshman Oluwafunmibi Yusuff (Providence, RI) was 16th in the weight throw (13.09). Freshman Jacklyn Xavier (Cumberland, RI) took 23rd in the 200m (27.00).

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will compete at the 2017 New England Open Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Fri. and Sat., Feb. 24-25 (10 a.m.).
