GALLAGHER & GEORGES PUNCH TICKETS TO NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AS ANCHORMEN FINISH 12TH AT NORTHEAST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Bristol, R.I.-Rhode Island College junior Michael Gallagher (Narragansett, RI) and senior John Georges (Cranston, RI) each earned bids to the NCAA Div. III National Championship after their outstanding performances at the 2017 NCAA Div. III Northeast Regional Championship, hosted by Roger Williams on Feb. 25-26.

 

Gallagher and Georges garnered All-Northeast Region accolades and helped lead the Anchormen to a 12th place finish (19 teams) with a team score of 35.5 points, while Johnson & Wales took home the team title with 171.5 points.

 

Gallagher notched a second place finish at 184 lbs., to earn All-Northeast Region accolades. The standout junior improved to 24-8 on the season with a 3-1 record over the weekend. In the semifinals, Gallagher posted a 3-2 win over Dan Wensley from WPI.He then took home second place in his weight class with a 7-2 setback against Christopher Chorzepa from Williams in the title match.

Georges grabbed All-Northeast Region honors and improved to 31-10 on the season with a 5-1 mark on the weekend, while taking third place at 285 lbs.  Georges had an impressive pin over Isaiah Bellamy from Wesleyan in a time of 6:49 in the consolation bracket semifinals. He then punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships with a 4-2 victory over Roger Williamsí Kyle Foster in the third place match.

Gallagher and Georges will now travel to the 2017 NCAA Division III National Championship, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse on March 10 (10 a.m.).
