MELANIE BRUNELLE NAMED LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE
WOMEN’S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Providence, R.I.- Rhode Island College sophomore Melanie Brunelle (Warwick, RI) was named the Little East Conference Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. Brunelle was also named the Little East Indoor & Outdoor Rookie Field Athlete of the Year during her freshman campaign in 2015-16.

 

Brunelle continued her remarkable career in an Anchorwoman uniform during the winter season, earning All-New England honors after recording a season-best distance of 11.42m and a fifth place finish at the N.E. Division III Championships on Feb. 24-25. She also earned All-N.E. Alliance honors in five events, winning both the 600m (1:38.14) and the triple jump (11.26m), notching a third place finish in the long jump (5.22m) and a fifth place finish in the high jump (1.52m) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. She also ran the anchor leg of the 4x200m relay team that took third place (1:47.65) at that event.

 

 

 

Brunelle finished first in the long jump on two occasions during the season, which included a season-best 5.27m performance at the UMass Boston Invitational on Dec. 3. She also had a pair of first place first place finishes in the high jump with a season-best 1.65m effort at Springfield’s Maroon & White Invitational on Jan. 21.

 

She placed first in the triple jump on four occasions this indoor track & field season. 

 

In upcoming action, RIC will travel to Tufts for its Last Chance Meet on Saturday, March 4 (11 a.m.).
