GRACE DAVIS NAMED NCGA EAST ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
AS TWO ANCHORWOMEN QUALIFY FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT NCGA EAST REGIONAL

Brockport, N.Y.--Freshman Grace Davis (Royersford, PA) was named the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Region Rookie of the Year, while sophomores Allie DiBiase (North Kingstown, RI) and Miranda Murphy (Lansdale, PA) earned bids in the all-around to the upcoming NCGA National Championship, after leading the Rhode Island College women’s gymnastics team to a sixth place finish (six teams) at the NCGA East Regionals, hosted by Brockport at the Turtle-North Gymnastics Center on Sunday afternoon.

 

RIC finished with a team score of 179.100, while host Brockport took the team title with a score of 191.850. Ursinus (189.450), Springfield (188.825), Cortland (186.975) and Ithaca (185.525) rounded out the rest of the region.

Davis had the highest score for RIC on beam, placing 15th (9.100) and also finished 29th on floor (9.175) among a field of 36 competitors. RIC since senior Cherise Lee (Burlington Township, NJ) won the award in 2013 and sophomore Kyndel Yett (Carrollton, GA) won the award in 2016. During the regular season, she posted the second and third highest (9.525; 9.500) scores on beam in program history.

 

DiBiase finished fifth in the all-around (36.600) among a field of six competitors. DiBiase finished 25th on floor (9.250), 21st on beam (8.950), 26th on bars (8.975) and 23rd on vault (9.425). This will be DiBiase's second consecutive trip to the NCGA National Championships

Murphy placed sixth in the all-around (34.600). Murphy was 33rd on bars (8.050), 35th on floor (8.925), 36th on beam (8.350) and 32nd on vault (9.275).

 

 

 Sophomore Miranda Murphy

 

RIC junior Corrine Paul (North Easton, MA) placed 20th on vault (9.475) and finished 24th on bars (9.125).

 

DiBiase and Murphy will travel to the NCGA National Championships, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stout on March 31 and April 1.
