2016-17 Rhode Island College Womenís Gymnastics Season Summary
(Sixth Place at the 2017 NCGA East Regional)

Providence, R.I.-Head Coach Bob Nannigís womenís gymnastics team qualified a pair of all-arounders for the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) National Championships, but did not qualify as a team.

 

RIC wrapped up its season with a sixth place (six teams) finish at the NCGA East Regional, hosted by Brockport, with a score of 179.100 on March 19.

 

The team recorded a season-best score of 182.950 for a fourth place finish at a quad-meet hosted by Bridgeport on March 7. The team score is the highest total for the Anchorwomen since prior to the 2001-02 campaign. 

 

 

 

Senior Cherise Lee (Burlington, NJ) wrapped up her career in 2016-17 after sitting out the 2015-16 season with an injury she suffered at the beginning of the campaign.

 

As a senior in 2015-16, she was named an NCGA Academic All-American. She suffered a season-ending injury at West Chester on Jan. 16.

 

As a junior in 2014-15, she averaged a score of 8.795 on floor for the season. She registered a season-high score of 9.300 against Springfield on Mar. 9.

 

As a sophomore in 2013-14, Lee averaged scores of 8.957 on vault, 8.242 on floor and 7.300 on beam for the year. She chalked up a season-high score of 9.100 on vault at the Brown Invitational on Jan. 26 and tallied a season-high score of 8.550 on floor at the Ithaca Tri on Feb. 15.

 

As a freshman in 2012-13, she was named the 2013 ECAC Rookie Gymnast of the Year. Averaged a score of 9.111 on vault, with her season-high score of 9.350 coming at the Springfield Tri on Jan. 13. She posted a season-high score of 8.675 on floor at the Ithaca Quad on Feb. 16 and averaged a score of 8.415 on floor for the season. She was named the ECAC Rookie Gymnast of the Week once on the year. 

 

Lee is a psychology major and a 2012 graduate from Burlington Township High School.

 

Senior Jaclyn Hahn (Marion, MA) finished up her career with NGCA Academic All-American honors. She averaged a score of 8.119 on bars, while recording a season-high 8.600 at the Springfield Quad on March 11.

 

As a junior in 2015-16, she averaged a score of 8.336 on bars for the season, while recording a season-high score of 8.650 twice on the season.

 

As a sophomore in 2014-15, she averaged scores of 8.125 on bars and 8.700 on floor on the season. Hahn recorded a season-best score of 8.750 on bars at the NCGA East Regional on Mar. 14. She registered a season-high 9.050 on floor against Ithaca on Feb. 21.

 

As a freshman in 2013-14, she averaged scores of 8.816 on vault and 7.959 on bars for the year. Hahn posted a season-high score of 9.075 on vault at the Brown Invitational on Jan. 26 and tallied a season-high score of 8.600 on bars on two occasions.

 

Hahn is an early childhood education major and a 2013 graduate from Old Rochester High School.

 

Senior Amanda Newton (Bellingham, MA) wrapped up her career in 2016-17, earning NCGA Academic All-American honors. She averaged a score of 8.225 on beam for the season. Newton recorded a season-best 9.100 on beam at the Cortland Tri on Feb. 5.

 

As a junior in 2015-16, she was a reserve on the team.

 

As a sophomore in 2014-15, she did not compete.

 

As freshman in 2013-14, she was a reserve on the team.

 

Newton is a psychology major and a 2013 graduate of Bellingham High School.

 

Junior Corrine Paul (North Easton, MA) wrapped up her career as an Anchorwoman. She has a year of eligibility remaining, but is graduating.

 

As a junior in 2016-17, Paul was named a NCGA Academic All-American. She averaged a score of 9.275 on the vault and an 8.506 on the bars. Paul registered a season-best score of 9.550 on vault at Bridgeport on March 7. She recorded a season-best on bars with a 9.125 at the NCGA East Regional on March 19.

 

As a sophomore in 2015-16, she averaged scores of 9.056 on vault and 8.386 on bars. Paul registered a season-best score of 9.350 on vault at the Brown Quad on Jan. 24. She recorded a season-high score of 8.950 on bars against Ithaca on Feb. 21.

 

As a freshman in 2014-15, she averaged scores of 9.018 on vault and 8.206 on bars for the season. She recorded a season-best 9.225 score on vault twice on the season. Paul registered a season-high score of 8.750 on bars at the NCGA East Regional on Mar. 14.

 

She is a community health and wellness major with a coaching minor and a 2013 graduate of Oliver Ames High School.

 

Junior Cailee Mallory (Rye, NH) averaged a score of 8.913 on beam. She recorded a season-best score of 9.325 on beam at the Springfield Quad on Mar. 11.

 

Junior Alexandria Otis (Windham, NH) averaged a score of 9.010 on beam. She recorded a season-best score of 9.400 on beam at the Springfield Quad on Mar. 11.

 

Junior Erin Shea (Braintree, MA) averaged scores of 9.233 on vault and 8.995 on floor. She registered a season-best score of 9.475 on vault at Springfield Quad on Mar. 11. Shea scored a season-best 9.325 on the floor at the Harriet Marranca Invitational on Feb. 26.

 

Junior Lacey Whitaker (Mansfield, MA) averaged scores of 8.991 on the vault and 8.000 on beam. She recorded a season-best score of 9.150 on the vault at the Springfield Quad on March 11.

 

Sophomore Allie DiBiase (North Kingstown, RI) was named the team MVP. She qualified for the NCGA National Championships as an all-arounder for the second straight season. She averaged scores of 9.227 on vault, 8.802 on bars, 8.830 on beam and 9.057 on floor for an all-around average of 35.916 on the season. She registered a season-best score of 9.550 on vault and a 9.175 on bars at the Springfield Quad on Mar. 11. DiBiase scored a season-best score of 9.325 on beam at the Cortland Tri on Feb. 5. She recorded her season-best score of 9.425 on floor at the Southern Connecticut Quad on Feb. 17. DiBiase recorded her season-best all-around score of 37.075 at the Springfield Quad on Mar. 11. She was named the NCGA All-Around Gymnast of the Week once on the season.

 

Sophomore Miranda Murphy (Lansdale, PA) qualified for the NCGA National Championships as an all-arounder. She averaged scores of 8.819 on vault, 7.910 on bars, 8.810 on beam and 8.843 on floor. Murphy notched a season-best score of 9.325 on vault at the Brown Quad on Feb. 12. She had a season-best score of 8.600 on bars at the season-opening RIC Quad on Jan. 15. Murphy posted a season-best 9.225 on beam on two occasions. Murphy recorded a season-best score of 9.325 on floor at the Harriet Marranca Invitational on Feb. 26. Murphy registered a season-best score of 35.850 in the all-around at the Brown Quad on Feb. 12.

 

Sophomore Kyndel Yett (Carrollton, GA) averaged scores of 9.364 on vault, 8.103 on bars and a 9.225 on floor. She registered season-best scores of 9.575 on vault and 8.925 on bars at the Bridgeport Quad on March 7. Yett registered a season-best score of 9.450 on floor at the Springfield Quad on Mar. 11.

 

Freshman Grace Davis (Royersford, PA) was named the NCGA East Region Rookie of the Year. She averaged scores of 9.105 on beam and 8.840 on floor for the season. Davis posted a season-best score of 9.525 on beam at the Springfield Quad on Mar. 11. She registered a season-best score of 9.225 on floor at the Bridgeport Quad on March 7.

 

Freshman Chandler Lynn (Grosse Pointe Woods, MI) averaged scores of 8.904 on vault, 8.313 on bars and 8.934 on floor. She recorded a season-best score of 9.100 on vault in the season-opening RIC Quad on Jan. 15. Lynn registered a season-best 8.550 on bars at the Harriet Marranca Invitational on Feb. 26. She recorded a season-best score of 9.275 on floor at the Bridgeport Quad on March 7.

 

Freshman Caitlynne McSweeney (Pembroke, MA) averaged a score of 8.400 on vault. She recorded a season-best score of 8.400 on vault at the Bulldog Invitational on Jan. 28.

 

Freshman Violet Pinola (Rumford, RI) averaged a score of 8.750 on vault, 8.200 on bars, 8.838 on beam, 8.569 on floor and 34.775 in the all-around. She registered a season-best score of 8.750 at the Springfield Quad on Mar. 11. Pinola recorded a season-best score of 8.550 on bars on two occasions. She registered a season-best score of 9.375 on beam and an 8.750 on floor at the Southern Connecticut Quad on Feb. 17. She posted a season-best score of 34.775 at the Springfield Quad on Mar. 11.
