Men’s Indoor Track & Field Summary

Providence, R.I.-Head Coach Nick Palazzo’s team wrapped up the 2016-17 season at the Tufts Last Chance meet on March 4. It was an individual meet with no team scoring.

 

The Anchormen did not score as a team the New England Open Championships on Feb. 24-25. RIC tied for 16th (27 teams) at the New England Div. III Championships on Feb. 17-18.

 

Rhode Island College finished eighth (11 teams) in the Alliance with a score of 50.0 and fifth (seven teams) with a score of 62.0 in the Little East at the New England Alliance Championships on Feb. 11.

 

 

 

Senior Joel Ikuejamofo (Providence, RI) earned All-New England honors as part of the seventh place 4x400m relay team (3:25.23) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 17. Ikuejamofo picked up a pair of N.E. Alliance accolades, finishing first with the 4x200m relay (1:31.89) and second as part of the 4x400m relay (3:24.50) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. He also placed eighth in the 400m (52.40) at the same meet. He finished fifth in the 400m (51.92) at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational on Feb. 4. Ikuejamofo placed 123rd in the 200m (23.31) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 27. He finished 10th in the 600m (1:28.85) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan. 21. Ikuejamofo placed sixth in the 400m (51.44) and 21st in the 200m (23.51) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 10. He finished 10th in the 400m (52.39) at the UMass Boston Invitational on Dec. 3. Ikuejamofo was recognized as part of the Little East Relay Team of the Week once on the season.

 

As a junior in 2015-16, Ikuejamofo finished 28th in the 400m (50.72) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 27. He finished 13th in the 400m (51.37) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 19-20. Ikuejamofo earned N.E. Alliance honors by finishing seventh in the 400m (52.62), while also competing as a member of the 11thplace 4x400m relay (3:52.57), at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He finished 18th in the 400m (50.45; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. Ikuejamofo finished 82nd in the 400m (50.48), while also competing as a member of the 40th place 4x400m relay (3:26.36), at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29-30. He finished second in the 600m (1:26.57; season-best), while also competing as a member of the first place 4x400m relay (3:31.60), at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24.

 

As a sophomore in 2013-14, he finished 23rd in the preliminaries of the 55m (8.97) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 18. He finished 21st in the 200m (23.66) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 14.

 

As a freshman in 2012-13, Ikuejamofo finished 20th in the 400m (52.26) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 16. Ikuejamofo finished 16th in the 400m (53.05) and 28th in the 200m (24.18) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. He was also a member of the 4x200m relay team broke the previous program record with a fifth-place time of 1:33.90. He placed 21st in the 400m with a season-best time of 49.28 and finished 79th in the 200m with a season-best time of 22.81 at the B.U. Terrier Invitational on Jan. 26. Ikuejamofo finished second in the 400m (52.20) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 19. He finished first in the 400m (51.81) and third in the 200m (24.39) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 12. Ikuejamofo finished fifth in the 200m (23.34) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 5. He placed 13th in the 400m (51.60) and was also a member of the 4x440m relay team broke the previous program record with a second-place time of 3:25.30 at the Harvard Open on Dec. 8. Ikuejamofo finished ninth in the 200m (23.97) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 1.

 

He is a criminal justice major and a 2012 graduate of Central High School.

 

Junior Jonathan Carney (Bristol, RI) has a year of eligibility remaining, but is graduating. As a senior in 2016-17, he finished 15th in the 5,000m (16:55.62) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. He placed 20th in the 3,000m (9:53.90) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan. 21. Carney finished third in the 1,000m (3:06.57) and seventh in the 3,000m (10:07.87) at the Coast Guard Academy Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed 14th in the mile (4:55.58) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 10. Carney finished 34th in the 5,000m (17:08.87) at the UMass Boston Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

 As a sophomore in 2015-16, Carney finished 17th in the 5,000m (16:51.74) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He finished 38th in the 3,000m (9:46.36; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 6. Carney finished first in the 5,000m (17:50.16) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished seventh in the mile (5:06.48; season-best) and 15th in the 1,000m (3:10.36; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. Carney finished sixth in the 5,000m (16:16.47; season-best), while also competing as a member of the fifth place 4x800m relay (9:36.27), at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.

 

As a freshman in 2014-15, he finished 13th in the 5,000m (17:00.00), and 21st in the 3,000m (10:03.80) at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 14. Carney placed 10thin the 5,000m (16:58.07; season-best) at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 7. Carney placed sixth in the 5,000m (17:15.22) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished 10th in the 3,000m (9:56.59) and 15th in the 1,000m (3:03.06) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 17. Carney finished 23rd in the 1,000m (2:56.56; season-best) at the Yale Invitational on Jan 10.  He placed 13th in the 3,000m (9:42.12; season-best) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 13. Carney placed 11th in the 5,000m (16:58.88) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

He is a computer science major with a minor in mathematics and a 2014 graduate of North Kingstown High School.

 

Junior Jake Brierly (Lincoln, RI) finished third in the weight throw (14.01m) and seventh in the shot (8.98m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed ninth in the weight throw (13.76m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 10. Brierly finished 12th in the weight throw (12.43m) at the UMass Boston Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Junior Matthew Charles (North Providence, RI) placed 18th in the 200m (23.07) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 17. Charles recorded a pair of N.E. Alliance honors with a fourth place finish in the 200m (22.97) and ran the third leg of the first place 4x200m relay team (1:31.89) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. Charles placed 15th in the 200m (23.18) and 27th in the preliminaries of the 60m (7.44) at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational on Feb. 4. He finished 97th in the 200m (22.92) at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 27. Charles placed 19th in the 400m (58.12) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan. 21. He finished fifth in both the 200m (23.68) and the long jump (5.52m) and eighth in the 55m (6.89) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. Charles placed 21st in the preliminary round of the 60m (7.36) and 16th in the 200m (23.21) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 10. He finished 15th in the 200m (23.55) and 33rd in the preliminary round of the 60m (7.42) at the UMass Boston Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Junior Vincent Santos (Narragansett, RI) finished 26th in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (8.93) at the New England Open Championships on Feb. 25. He placed 16th in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (9.00) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 17. Santos finished 12th in the preliminaries of the 55m hurdles (9.06) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. He placed 13th in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (8.97) and 39th in the 200m (24.44) at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational on Feb. 4. Santos finished 41st in the 60m hurdles (9.00) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 27. He placed fifth in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (9.03) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan. 21. Santos finished first in the 55m hurdles (8.23) and fifth in the triple jump (11.03m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed first in the 55m hurdles (8.23) and eighth in the 400m (56.93) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. Santos finished ninth in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (8.99) and 32nd in the 200m (24.53) and at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 10. He placed fifth in the 60m hurdles (8.98) and 53rd in the 200m (24.43) at the UMass Boston Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Junior Shamar Spruill (Providence, RI) finished sixth in the weight throw (16.15m) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on March 4. He placed 13th in the weight throw (16.21m) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 25. He earned All-N.E. honors with a fifth place finish in the weight throw (16.0m) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 17. Spruill earned N.E. Alliance honors with a fourth place finish in the weight throw (16.61m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. He placed fifth in the weight throw (16.79m) at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational on Feb. 4. Spruill finished eighth in the weight throw (16.84m) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 27. He placed first in the weight throw (16.76m) and 18th in the shot (10.31m) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan. 21. Spruill finished first in the weight throw (16.27m) and fifth in the shot (10.12m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed sixth in the weight throw (15.76m) and 14th in the shot (10.90m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 10.

 

Sophomore Destin Bibemi (Providence, RI) finished 14th in the preliminaries of the 400m (50.22) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 25. He earned All-New England honors as part of the seventh place 4x400m relay team (3:25.23), while also finishing 17th in the 400m (52.47), at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 17. Bibemi earned three N.E. Alliance honors, finishing third in the 400m (51.26), ran the second leg of the first place 4x200m relay team (1:31.89) and also ran the second leg of the 4x400m relay team that finished in second place (3:24.50) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. He also finished 16th in the long jump (5.69m) at the same meet.

 

He placed fourth in the 500m (1:08.38) and 16th in the long jump (5.80m) at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational on Feb. 4. Bibemi finished 42nd in the long jump (5.32m) and 45th in the 400m (50.38) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 27. He placed fifth in the 400m (52.58) and sixth in the long jump (5.76) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan. 21. Bibemi finished third in both the long jump (6.03) and the triple jump (11.81m), to go along with a sixth place finish in the 600m (1:31.29), at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed seventh in the 400m (51.45) and 24th in the 200m (23.60) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 10. Bibemi finished ninth in the 400m (52.28) at the UMass Boston Invitational on Dec. 3. He was recognized as part of the Little East Relay Team of the Week once on the season.

 

Sophomore Jeff Garson (Cumberland, RI) placed 19th in the mile (5:16.12) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan. 21. He finished 10th in the mile (5:36.91) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. Garson placed 16th in the mile (5:04.48) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 10. He finished 38th in the 5,000m (17:31.77) at the UMass Boston Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Sophomore Adam Stomberg (West Greenwich, RI) finished 36th in the weight throw (9.29m) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 27. He placed 27th in the weight throw (9.16m) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan. 21. Stomberg finished seventh in the weight throw (9.90m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed 16th in the weight throw (9.59m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 10. Stomberg finished 28th in the weight throw (9.70m) at the UMass Boston Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Freshman Levon Campbell (Newport, RI) was named the team MVP. He placed 13th in the preliminaries of the 200m (22.54) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 25. He earned All-New England honors with an eighth place finish in the 200m (22.74) and as part of the seventh place 4x400m relay team (3:25.23) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 17. Campbell earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events, placing third in the 200m (22.76), first with the 4x200m relay team (1:31.89) and second in the 4x400m relay (3:24.50) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11.  He also finished 13th in the preliminaries of the 50m (6.79).

 

He finished ninth in the 200m (22.97) and 14th in the preliminaries of the 60m (7.26) at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational on Feb. 4. Campbell placed 43rd in the 60m (7.31) and 62nd in the 200m (22.54) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 27. He finished first in the 200m (22.87) and seventh in the 60m (7.24) at the Maroon and White Classic on Jan. 21. Campbell placed third in the 55m (6.76), sixth in the 200m (23.96) and ninth in the long jump (4.27m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He finished 11th in the 200m (22.96) and 17th in the preliminary round of the 60m (7.26) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 10. Campbell finished 11th in the preliminary round of the 60m (7.25), while also placing 86th in the 200m (22.88), at the UMass Boston Invitational Dec. 3. Campbell was recognized as part of the Little East Relay Team of the Week once on the season.

 

Freshman Joseph Palazzo (Providence, RI) placed 21st in the weight throw (11.88m) at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational on Feb. 4. He finished 33rd in the weight throw (11.51m) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 27. Palazzo placed 20th in the weight throw (11.78m) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan. 21. He finished fourth in the weight throw (12.10m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. Palazzo placed 12th in the weight throw (11.77m) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 10. He finished 16th in the weight throw (11.54m) at the UMass Boston Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Freshman Jephte Wagnac (Providence, RI) placed 25th in the preliminaries of the 400m (51.06) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 25. He earned All-New England honors with a sixth place finish in the 400m (50.68) and as part of the seventh place 4x400m relay team (3:25.23) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 17. Wagnac earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events, placing fourth in the 400m (51.83), fifth in the triple jump (13.02m) and second in the 4x400m relay (3:24.50) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. He also finished 13th in the long jump (5.79m) at the same meet.

 

He finished sixth in the triple jump (12.90m) and ninth in the 400m (52.63) at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational on Feb. 4. Wagnac placed 24th in the triple jump (12.22m) and 44th in the 400m (50.30) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 27. He finished first in the triple jump (12.91) and fourth in the 400m (52.56) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan. 21. Wagnac placed first in the triple jump (12.07m), while finishing second in both the 400m (53.33) and the long jump (6.10m), at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He finished sixth in the triple jump (12.64m) and 16th in the 400m (52.94) at the Jay Carisella Invitational on Dec. 3. Wagnac was named the Little East Rookie Field Athlete of the Week twice and was named to the LEC Relay Team of the Week once.
