New London, Conn.-The Rhode Island College women’s lacrosse team opened the northern portion of the 2017 schedule with a 12-1 setback at Coast Guard in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon.


Coast Guard (2-4) had control of the action early and took an 8-0 advantage heading into halftime after two goals apiece by junior Cecilia Hosley (Chester, CT), sophomore Anna McColdrick (Glenside, PA) and freshman MegMarie Stanchi (Fairfax, VA).


RIC (0-4) got on the board early in the second half with a free-position goal by senior midfielder Jessica Trautman (Narragansett, RI) with 22:29 left in the contest made the score 9-1. That would be as close as the Anchorwomen would get as Coast Guard added three goals late in the contest to cruise to the victory. Coast Guard outshot RIC by a 33-12 margin in the contest. Freshman Abagail Bradford (Bowie, MD) notched two goals and three assists for the Bears.

Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Eaton (Cumberland, RI) had 14 saves in the loss for RIC, while senior Hannah Delguercio (Edgerton, WI) notched six stops in the win for the hosts.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Mitchell for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, March 22 (4 p.m.).
