LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College menís soccer team has been picked to finish second in the 2017 Little East Conference Menís Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll. The Anchormen received 40 points and one first place vote, while top pick UMass Boston received six first place votes and 48 points.

Head Coach John Mello, the defending LEC Coach of the Year, led RIC to the Championship Game of the 2016 LEC Tournament where it fell, 2-1, to UMass Boston. The Anchormen finished the year with a 15-4-1 overall record and a 5-1-1 (first place tie) mark in the league. The Anchormen shared the 2016 Little East Conference Regular Season Championship with UMass Boston. The Anchormenís 15 wins a year ago set a new program record for a single season, eclipsing the 1973 squadís previous high mark of 13.

The New England Soccer Journal recently named the Anchormen the second-most underrated Div. III team in the region.

RIC will be led once again by senior All-New England and All-Little East forward Komla Dogbey (Providence, RI). In 2016, he played in 18 games, starting all of them. He led the team and was third in the Little East in scoring with 15 goals and eight assists for 38 points on the season.

 Senior defender Elimane Seye

He finished tied for the team lead in assists with eight on the year, while adding two goals for 12 points. The New England Soccer Journal recently named him the fifth-most underrated Div.
