RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE WOMENíS TENNIS PICKED SECOND
IN LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College womenís tennis team has been picked for a second place finish in the 2017 Little East Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Anchorwomen received 57 points and three first place votes, while top pick UMass Dartmouth earned 58 points and three first place nods. Third place and defending Little East champ Bridgewater State received 56 points and three first place votes.

 

Head Coach Adam Springís (57-20, .740) team finished the 2016 campaign with a 13-2 record overall and a 7-1 (first place tie) mark in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen captured a share of the 2016 Little East Conference Regular Season Championship, marking the second straight year RIC finished the season atop the league standings.

The Anchorwomen will be led by senior Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA), the 2016 LEC Player of the Year and First Team All-Little East selection in both singles and doubles. Reilly was 14-1 (.933) at No. 1 singles and 14-1 (.933) at No. 1 doubles for 21.0 points on the season. 

 

Senior Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) also earned Second Team All-Little East in singles for the Anchorwomen in 2016. She was 11-1 (.917) at No. 3 singles and 10-3 (.769) at No. 3 doubles on the season.

 

RICís No. 2 doubles team of senior Isabella Romeo (Greenville, RI) and junior Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, RI) also return for the Anchorwomen. The duo earned Second Team All-Little East in doubles after posting a 12-3 (.800) record on the year.

 

The Anchorwomen open the season at Lesley on Friday, Sept. 1 (7 p.m.).
