WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL OPENS SEASON
AT BRANDEIS INVITATIONAL

Waltham, Mass.-The Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team opened the 2017 campaign with a 1-2 record at the Brandeis Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 1-2.

 

The Anchorwomen dropped a hard-fought 3-2 (26-24, 20-25, 25-22, 15-25, 10-15) setback against Mount St. Mary’s on Friday evening to open the tournament. Leading the way for RIC was senior outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (Cranston, RI) with 18 kills and 18 digs. Junior outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) also recorded a double-double with 11 kills and a team-best 27 digs in the setback. Senior setter Abby White (Coventry, RI) notched 33 set assists, while sophomore middle blocker Jessica Brielmaier (West Greenwich, RI) recorded six kills and a team-best five blocks.

 

On Saturday morning, RIC fell to Babson 3-0 (15-25, 16-25, 13-25). Ward tallied six kills and a team-best 10 digs, while White handed out 17 set assists and eight digs. Lambrese registered five kills and eight digs in the setback.

RIC wrapped up the tournament with an impressive 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-18) win over Smith on Saturday afternoon. Once again Lambrese paced the Anchorwomen with 11 kills and eight digs, while Ward narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs. White recorded 27 set assists and six digs.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Worcester State on Tuesday, Sept. 5 (7 p.m.)
