HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC senior forward Komla Dogbey (Providence, RI) collected
a loose ball in the box after a free kick and slipped a shot into
the corner of the net from five yards out with just eight seconds
left on the clock in the first half. The Anchormen led 1-0 at
halftime despite being outshot by a 7-2 margin.
• Oneonta scored a pair of goals less than a minute
apart early in the second half to take the lead, 2-1. Senior
midfielder Steven Collins (Flemington, NJ) notched a goal at
the 53:31 mark to knot the game at 1-1. The Red Dragons then took
the lead at the 54:22 mark when they capitalized on a miscue by the
RIC defense and sophomore forward Austin Betterly (Plymouth
Meeting, PA) connected on a shot.
• Dogbey then knotted the score with 18:45 left in
the contest when he scored on a breakaway. The play was started from
sophomore defender Preston Kar (Monrovia, Liberia), who sent
a pass to midfield for junior forward Cooper Ferreira (Westerly,
RI). Ferreira then fed a streaking Dogbey who put in a shot from
10 yards out for the equalizer.
• With just over a minute left in regulation, Oneonta
was awarded a penalty kick after a RIC foul. Junior midfielder Danny
Corridan (Queens, NY) took the PK that was initially saved by
RIC freshman goalkeeper Charlie Tashjian (West Warwick, RI). Junior
forward Sean Larkin (Loudonville, NY) then put in the rebound
to propel the Red Dragons to the 3-2 victory.
