CILLEY CAPTURES INDIVIDUAL TITLE AS ANCHORMEN OPEN 2017-18 SEASON WITH WIN AT MCLA INVITATIONAL

Pittsfield, Mass.-The Rhode Island College men’s golf team opened the 2017-18 season with a first place finish at the 2017 MCLA Invitational, played at the Berkshire Hills Country Club on Thursday afternoon.

 

 

 

THE BASICS
Rhode Island College (Team Score: 300), First Place (10 Teams)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Rhode Island College fired a team score of 300 to finish first among a field of 10 teams at the Par 72, 6,500-yard course.

• Senior Austin Cilley (Westerly, RI) captured the individual title with a score of 70. Cilley finished first among a field of 46 competitors, two strokes better than the second place finisher. 

•  Senior Josh Macera (Cranston, RI) finished tied for fifth with a score of 76.

 • Junior Mike Caparco (Johnston, RI) and sophomore Nathan Patterson (Conway, MA) tied for 10th with a score of 77. Junior Ryan Badeau (Woonsocket, RI) tied for 17th with a score of 80.

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC bested second place Westfield State (307) by seven strokes and third place Roger Williams (308) by eight.

• The Anchormen have won this event the past six consecutive seasons.

 

WHO'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Williams Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23-24.
