ANCHORWOMEN SPLIT AT SOUTHERN MAINE

Gorham, Maine-Senior outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (Cranston, RI) averaged 5.5 kills and 1.8 digs per set to help lead the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team to a split of a tri-match against Southern Maine and Colby at USM’s Hill Gymnasium on Saturday. RIC dropped a, 3-1 (25-27, 22-25, 25-14, 22-25), decision against Southern Maine in a Little East Conference contest before defeating Colby, 3-1 (25-17, 26-24, 26-28, 25-16), in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
RIC vs. Southern Maine
•  In the loss against the Huskies, Lambrese led the way with a match-high 24 kills and six digs.

• Junior outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) recorded another double-double with 18 kills and 13 digs for the Anchorwomen.

• RIC sophomore right side hitter Jacqueline Jutras (North Scituate, RI) narrowly missed a double-double as she tallied 10 kills and nine digs, while contributing seven assists in the setback.

• Senior setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) notched 42 assists and registered 12 digs for the Anchorwomen.

• Southern Maine was paced by senior outside hitter Jess Williamson (Goffstown, NH) with 22 kills and 12 digs, while freshman right side hitter Jamie Jannarone (Windham, ME) added seven kills and five blocks in the victory.

• Junior setter Nicole Schmitz (St. Paul, MN) registered 41 assists and five digs for the Huskies in the win.

RIC vs. Colby
• In the win over Colby, Ward posted a double-double with 16 kills and 23 digs.

• Lambrese tallied a match-high 20 kills and nine digs for the Anchorwomen.  

• White notched 43 assists and chipped in with 11 digs and four kills, while sophomore middle blocker Jessica Brielmaier (West Greenwich, RI) recorded nine kills and three blocks.

• Junior outside hitter Paige Hanssen (Earlysville, VA) paced Colby with 17 kills and 10 digs.

• Junior setter Molly Manuel (Andover, MA) notched 18 assists and five digs in the loss for the Mules.

 

BY THE NUMBERS
RIC vs. Southern Maine

• RIC had a .204 (54-23-152) hitting percentage, while Southern Maine hit .220 (48-19-122).

• The Anchorwomen had 10 service aces and 66 digs in the loss, while Southern Maine notched 51 digs and 11 blocks in the victory.

RIC vs. Colby
• RIC registered a .243 (56-20-148) hitting percentage, while Colby hit .171 (39-15-140).

• The Anchorwomen had 72 digs and 13 service aces in the victory, with Colby notched 43 digs in the setback.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Wheaton on Thursday, Sept. 28 (7 p.m.).
