Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College freshman goalkeeper Charlie Tashjian (West Warwick, RI) was named the Little East Conference Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, while senior back Elimane Seye (Providence, RI) was tabbed the LEC Defensive Player of the Week for their respective performances in a 1-1 week for the Anchormen. This marks the third straight week that Tashjian has been tabbed the conference’s top rookie.


Seye and Tashjian helped lead the Anchormen to a 1-1 week with a hard fought, 1-0, setback against Gordon on Oct. 3, before rebounding for a 1-0 victory against UMass Dartmouth in a key Little East Conference contest on Oct. 7.

Seye has been the key to the RIC defense all season, anchoring a unit that has allowed just 18 goals in 11 games to go along with a pair of shutouts. He has played in 11 games, starting two of them. Seye has two goals for four points.


Tashjian (5-4-1) made four saves in the setback against Gordon. He followed that up with four saves to pick up his second shutout of the season against UMass Dartmouth. For the season, he has played in 11 games, starting 10 of them. He has posted a 1.49 goals against average, 55 saves and a .775 save percentage.

Head Coach John Mello’s team is 5-5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Little East.


 In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Worcester State on Tuesday, Oct. 10 (7 p.m.).
