RIC UPS WINS STREAK TO FOUR IN, 3-0,
SHUTOUT VS. EMMANUEL

Providence, R.I.— Junior outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) tallied a match-best 15 kills and added five digs, four service aces and three blocks to help lead the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team to a, 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-23) win over Emmanuel at The Murray Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen downed Emmanuel, 25-12, in the first set. Senior outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (Cranston, RI) recorded six kills and added three digs. Senior setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) notched 11 assists. Emmanuel was led by junior outside hitter Casey Sheehan (Medway, MA) with three kills and two digs, while junior setter Carly Church (Higganum, CT) had four assists.

• RIC controlled the action throughout the second set and cruised to the, 25-11, win. Ward notched seven kills, four digs and three service aces for the Anchorwome.. Junior outside hitter Mary Shelow (Miami, FL) tallied two kills in the frame for Emmanuel.

• The third set saw back and forth action with the score knotted, 22-22. RIC then reeled off three of the next four points to take the 25-23 win and close out the match. Lambrese had four kills, while White notched seven assists, two digs and one kill for the Anchorwomen. Sophomore middle hitter Shannon Carroll (Massapequa, NY) and sophomore right side hitter Samantha DeMarco (Rockland, MA) each notched three kills in the setback for the visitors.

• Lambrese finished the contest with 10 kills and four dig,s while White recorded 24 assists, three digs and two kills in the win for RIC.

• Carroll paced Emmanuel with four kills and a block, while freshman setter Madison Majewski (Swansea, MA) had 14 assists and two digs.

 

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC hit a remarkable .471 (40-8-68) in the match, while Emmanuel hit .029 (21-19-69).

• The win was the fourth straight for the Anchorwomen. All three have been, 3-0, shutouts.  

• RIC held a 23-18 advantage in digs and a recorded 11 service aces and nine blocks in the victory.

 

WHO'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host New England College on Tuesday, Oct. 17 (7 p.m.).
