ANCHORWOMEN NOTCH IMPORTANT LEAGUE
WIN ON SENIOR NIGHT

Providence, R.I.-Junior outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) hit .481 with 14 kills and 10 digs to lead Rhode Island College past UMass Dartmouth, 3-0 (27-25, 25-15, 25-12), in Little East Conference women’s volleyball action played at The Murray Center on Tuesday night. The win was important for the hosts in their quest to secure a spot in the upcoming 2017 Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Tournament, which begins on Oct. 31.

SENIOR NIGHT
• Rhode Island College honored senior outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (Cranston, RI) and classmate setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI), along with their families, as part of Senior Night prior to the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Rhode Island College built a 17-11 advantage in the first set, only to see the Corsairs storm back to tie the frame, 23-all. With the set tied at 25, Ward notched back-to-back kills to pick up the win, 27-25. Ward had six kills and four digs, while Lambrese chipped in with four kills and four digs. UMD sophomore outside hitter Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, MA) knocked down six winners for the visitors. 

• The hosts found themselves up by one, 11-10, in the second set before using a 9-4 run to build a six-point, 20-14, lead. The Anchorwomen then went on a 5-1 run to take the set, 25-15, and a 2-0 advantage in the match. Ward notched five kills without an error, while freshman middle blocker Emilia Vaziri (Cranston, RI) picked up four winners, in the frame.

• RIC put UMD away in the third set, winning, 25-12. Lambrese led the way with five kills and four digs.

 

BY THE NUMBERS
• Lambrese hit .333 with 12 kills and nine digs, while White contributed 24 assists in the win. RIC hit .319 (38-8-94) in the match. 

• White raised her career assist total to 2,986, and needs just 14 assists to reach 3,000 for her career. She needs 92 assists to break Jessica Ho’s ’ (2009-12) all-time career mark of 3,077. 

• Silverman led the way for UMD with 10 kills, while sophomore setter Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, NY) contributed 20 assists. Sophomore libero Meghan Mullinax (Lake Balboa, CA) contributed 10 digs. UMD hit .093 (29-20-97) and held a 44-37 advantage in digs for the match.

 

WHO'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will close out the regular season with a Little East Conference game at Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 28 (Noon).
