CURRAN LEADS RIC WOMEN'S SWIMMING
AT SAINT JOSEPH PENTATHLON

Hartford, Conn.--Senior Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) recorded a pair of top-10 finishes as the Rhode Island College women’s swimming team competed at the University of Saint Joseph Pentathlon on Friday evening. It was an individual meet with no team scoring.

THE BASICS
• Curran finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:18.33) and was ninth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.39). She took home 14th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:16.27) and was 11th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:04.31). Curran notched an 11th place finish in the 100-yard IM (1:12.47). She also swam the third leg of the sixth place 200-yd medley relay team (2:18.46) and had the lead leg of the third place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:37.94).

• Junior Courtney Payne (Waterford, CT) finished in 17th place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:28.85) and was 33rd in the 100-yard IM (1:25.91). She also swam the second leg of the 200-yard medley relay that notched a sixth place finish (2:18.46) and the anchor leg of the third place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:37.94).

• Sophomore Vanessa Dao (Revere, MA) recorded a 21st place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:18.13) and finished in 26th place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:39.97). She was in 22nd place in the 100-yard freestyle (1:07.01), finished 28th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:36.92) and was 32nd in the 100-yard IM (1:25.52). Dao also swam the third leg of the third place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:37.94) and the anchor leg of the sixth place 200-yard medley relay (2:18.46).

• Senior Rachel Soria (Pawtucket, RI) posted a 23rd place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:18.77) and was in 25th place in the 100-yard butterfly (1:31.96). Soria also finished in 26th place in the 100-yard freestyle and swam in the third place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:37.94). She also registered a sixth place finish as part of the 200-yard medley relay (2:18.46).

• The relay team of junior Madison Lane (Barrington, RI), sophomore Jianna Hodge (North Providence, RI), freshman Makeila Robles (Willimantic, CT) and freshman Alexis Lewis (North Kingstown, RI) recorded an eighth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:20.57).

 

WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to UMass Dartmouth for the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 4 (Noon).
