HOW IT HAPPENED
RIC had five players score in double figures, including freshman
guard Adham Floyd (Worcester, MA) with a team-best 14 points,
four rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore guard Chris Farrington
(Fall River, MA) added 11 points, four rebounds and three steals
in the victory.
Freshman guard AJ Pettway
(Worcester, MA) tallied 12 points with three steals, while
sophomore guard CJ Donaldson (Bridgeport, CT) notched 11
points, four rebounds and two assists for the Anchormen.
Regis senior guard Roger Hamel
(Huntington Beach, CA) led all scorers with 20 points, four
rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Junior guard Jordan Seldon
(Dorchester, MA) was also in double figures with 15 points and
three rebounds in the setback for the Pride.
RIC trailed, 27-24, with 6:11 left
in the first half, but the Anchormen would tie the score, 27-27, on
three straight free throws from Floyd. The free throws were part of
a 10-0 Anchormen run that put them on top by a score of 34-27 with
just over five minutes left in the half.
The Anchormen took the 44-32 lead
heading into the locker room at halftime.
RIC took its largest lead of the
game, 72-56, on a layup by Gillis with 6:54 left on the clock.
Regis responded, however, and cut
the lead down to two, 74-72, on a pair of free throws from junior
forward Ademola Afonja (Staten Island, N.Y.) with 1:39 left
on the clock.
The Pride got one last chance to
win the game, but a three-pointer by Afonja was off the mark to give
RIC the win.
