ROGER WILLIAMS HANDS ANCHORWOMEN
FIRST LOSS OF THE YEAR

Bristol, R.I.-Sophomore guard Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, MA) scored a team-high 20 points and added five rebounds and two steals, but it wouldn't be enough as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team suffered a 54-42 setback at Roger Williams on Sunday afternoon. The loss snapped the four-game winning streak to open the 2017-18 campaign for the Anchorwomen.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•  RIC sophomore forward Ornela Livramento (Pawtucket, RI) added four points, a team-best nine rebounds and three blocks, while senior guard Jessa Rubera (Newton, MA) contributed seven points in the loss for the Anchorwomen.

• Senior forward Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, MA) led the way for Roger Williams with 14 points and seven rebounds.

• Senior guard Anna Walther (Northampton, MA) was also in double-figures with 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks in the win for the Hawks.

• Roger Williams raced out to an early, 10-2, lead after a layup from Nicholas.

• RIC responded and cut the lead down to two, 14-12, on a layup from Livramento with :28 left in the first quarter.

• Roger Williams controlled the action to start the second quarter and used a 10-0 run to take a 24-12 advantage on a free throw from senior forward Stephanie Bramante (Stoneham, MA) with 5:23 left in the half.

• RIC cut the lead to just seven points on several occasions late in the first half, but couldn't get any closer as Roger Williams took a 37-25 advantage heading into the locker room at halftime.

• RWU led by as many as 15 points several times throughout the third quarter and was up, 47-32, lead after three quarters of play.

• The Hawks took their largest lead of the game, 53-34, with just over five minutes left in the contest on a layup from Nicholas.

 

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 30.4 percent (17-of-56) from the field, 25.0 percent (3-of-12) from the three-point line and 83.3 percent (5-of-6) from the free throw line.

• Roger Williams shot 45.3 percent (24-of-53) from the field, 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from the three-point line and 25.0 percent (2-of-8) from the free throw line.

•  RWU outrebounded RIC by a 40-31 margin, while the Anchorwomen forced the Hawks into 19 turnovers in the contest.

• In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Johnson & Wales on Wednesday, Nov. 29 (7 p.m.).
