YANG WINS WEIGHT THROW AND SETS RIC RECORD
AT BOWDOIN INVITATIONAL

Brunswick, Maine-Freshman Chelsea Yang (Warwick, RI) took home first place in the weight throw (16.45m) with a new program record to lead the Rhode Island College women's indoor track & field team to a fifth place finish at the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday.

 

THE BASICS
• The Anchorwomen finished in fifth place (seven teams) with 51 points, while WPI took home first place.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The win for Yang marked the third straight competition that she has won the weight throw. Yang also placed eighth in the shot (9.81m) for the Anchorwomen.

• RIC sophomore Oluwafunmibi Yusuff (Providence, RI) placed fourth in both the shot (10.48m) and the weight throw (13.55m).

• Junior Eleni Grammas (Cranston, RI) finished in third place in the 60m (8.12), eighth in the 200m (28.24), ran the third leg of the second place 4x200m (1:49.92) relay and had the second leg of the fifth place 4x400m relay (4:38.91).

• Junior Nicole Grammas (Cranston, RI) notched an eighth place in in the 60m (8.27), was in fourth place in the 400m (1:04.71), ran the anchor leg of the second place 4x200m relay (1:49.92) and had the lead leg of the fifth place 4x400m relay (4:38.91).

• Sophomore Emma Landroche (Warwick, RI) recorded a 14th place finish in the 200m dash (29.61), ran the lead leg of the second place 4x200m (1:49.92) and had the third leg of the fifth place 4x400m relay (4:38.91). She also placed 11th in the long jump (4.40m).

• Sophomore Jacklyn Xavier (Cumberland, RI) notched a fifth place finish in the 200m (27.81), ran the second leg of the second place 4x200m relay (1:49.92) and had the anchor leg of the fifth place 4x400m relay (4:38.91).

• Freshman Shayna Cousineau (Cranston, RI) placed fifth in the 1,000m (3:19.34), was sixth in the mile run (5:39.87) and had the third leg of the fourth place 4x800m (11:29.97) relay.

• Junior Rebecca Meinertz (Smithfield, RI) placed fifth in the 800m (2:38.79) and had the lead leg of the fourth place 4x800m (11:29.97) relay.

• Freshman Jasmine Gallo-Fusco (Warwick, RI) notched a fifth place finish (13.25m) in the weight throw, while freshman Melissa Mejias (Providence, RI) registered a seventh place finish (12.24m) in the same event.

 

WHAT’S NEXT

• In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 20 (10 a.m.).
