RIC freshman Adham Floyd
(Worcester, MA) scored 11 points and added eight rebounds and
Junior forward Grant Gillis
(Jamestown, RI) added seven points and five boards in the loss
for the Anchormen.
Senior guard Tarchee Brown
(Rockville, CT) paced Eastern Connecticut with a double-double,
scoring a game-high 17 points with 13 rebounds.
Senior guard Kendall Marquez
(Willimantic, CT) added 14 points with three assists in the win
for the Warriors.
RIC took its first lead of the game
when a layup by Gillis put the Anchormen up, 13-11, with 13:08 left
in the first half.
The Anchormen took their first
double-digit advantage of the contest after a three-pointer from
Floyd made the score 21-11 with 8:22 left in the half.
RIC led by as many as 15 points
several times in the stanza before taking a 32-23 lead heading into
the locker room at halftime.
Eastern Connecticut used a 10-0 run
to start the second half, capped by a three-pointer from Marquez, to
take a 33-32 advantage with 18:09 left in the contest. The Warriors
held a 42-34 advantage midway through the second half.
The Anchormen closed the gap to
just two points when a three-pointer from senior guard Malcolm
Smith (Old Orchard Beach, ME) made the score 47-45 with 5:55
That would be as close as RIC would
get as Eastern Connecticut pulled away down the stretch en route to
the 61-49 victory.
