HOW IT HAPPENED
guard CJ Donaldson (Bridgeport, CT) had 16 points, three
steals, two rebounds and two assists.
Adham Floyd (Worcester, MA) tallied 11 points and a team-best
seven rebounds, while junior forward Justin Campbell (New Haven,
CT) added 11 points with six boards in the loss for the
Aaron Samuel (Stratford, CT) led the way for Western Connecticut
with 20 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Rashard Rodriguez (Trumbull, CT) had 18 points and 17
rebounds in the win for the Colonials
throughout the early stages of the game, which included a 22-16
advantage after a pair of free throws from Campbell with 12:32 left
in the first half.
Connecticut then used a 12-0 run, capped by a pair of free throws
from Rodriguez, to take the 28-22 lead with 6:19 remaining in the
build on their advantage for the remainder of the half and took a
45-33 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
WCSU pushed its
advantage to 59-49 on a layup from Samuel with 13:13 remaining in
and cut the lead to just three points when a three-point play from
junior center Grant Gillis (Jamestown, RI) made the score
64-61 with 7:34 left on the clock.
That would be
as close as the Anchormen would get, however as Western Connecticut
pulled away down the stretch to take the 12-point victory.
