ANCHORMEN OPEN SEASON WITH, 9-0, WIN

Providence, R.I.--Freshman Cam Chadwick (South Kingstown, RI) and senior Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) each picked up a pair of victories to lead the Rhode Island College men’s tennis team to a 9-0 non-conference victory against Curry to open the 2017-18 season at the RIC Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Chadwick posted a (6-3, 6-1) win against Sean Heller at the No. 2 singles spot and teamed with classmate Mike Dickie (Smithfield, RI) for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles against Heller and Richie Hefler (Canton, CT).

• Taggart posted a (6-2, 6-1) win against Hefler at No. 1 singles and recorded an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles with freshman Alex Bourque (North Smithfield, RI) against the Curry team of sophomore Zach Muller (Methuen, MA) and junior Daniel Rittucci (Middleboro, MA).

• RIC Junior Matt Gambardella (West Warwick, RI) posted a (6-1, 6-0) win against Muller at No. 3 singles, while freshman Ethan Hoy (West Warwick, RI) had a (6-1, 6-0) victory over Rittucci at the fourth singles spot.

• RIC was awarded forfeits at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots, as well as the third doubles spot.

 

WHO'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will be off until the spring season in March.
