SHAYNA COUSINEAU WINS THE 800M AS
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD COMPETES
AT HOLIDAY CLASSIC

Providence, R.I.--Freshman Shayna Cousineau (Cranston, RI) took home first place in the 800m (2:29.50) and ran the third leg of the third place 4x800m relay (10:52.30) to lead the Rhode Island College women's indoor track & field team at the RIC Holiday Classic held at the Providence Career & Technical Academy on Saturday.

 

THE BASICS
The meet featured 16 of the top NCAA Division II and III teams from throughout New England. It was an individual meet with no team scoring.

 

 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED
 RIC freshman Chelsea Yang (Warwick, RI) took home first place in the weight throw (15.81m) for the second straight week.

RIC sophomore Jacklyn Xavier (Cumberland, RI) placed second in the 60m dash (8.234), had a 13th-place finish in the 400m (1:07.69), ran the second leg of the second place 4x200m (1:47.85) relay and had the third leg of the third place 4x400m relay (4:26.1).

Junior Nicole Grammas (Cranston, RI) finished in fourth place in in the 60m dash (8.240), was in sixth place in the 600m (1:46.07), ran the anchor leg of the second place 4x200m (1:47.85) and had the lead leg of the third place 4x400m relay (4:26.1).

Sophomore Emma Landroche (Warwick, RI) recorded a fifth place finish in the 60m dash (8.250), had a fourth place finish in the 200m (27.00) and ran the lead leg of the second place 4x200m relay (1:47.85).

Freshman Rachel Meus (Providence, RI) notched a fourth place finish in the high jump (1.48m) and a ninth place finish (27.60) in the 200m. She also had the second leg of the third place 4x400m relay (4:26.1).

Junior Eleni Grammas (Cranston, RI) finished in 12th place in the 200m (28.25), ran the third leg of the second place 4x200m (1:47.85) relay and had the anchor leg of the third place 4x400m relay (4:26.1).

Sophomore Oluwafunmibi Yusuff (Providence, RI) placed third in the weight throw (14.61m) and finished eighth (10.94m) in the shot .

Senior Destinee Barrette (Warwick, RI) posted a second place finish in the weight throw (15.33) and finished 17th in the shot (9.30m).

Freshman Jasmine Gallo-Fusco (Warwick, RI) notched a fourth place finish (14.61m) in the weight throw. Freshman Melissa Mejias (Providence, RI) registered a seventh place finish (13.08m) and sophomore Jamie Dobson (Bradford, RI) was in 15th place (11.18m) in the weight throw.

Junior Rebecca Meinertz (Smithfield, R) recorded a fifth place finish in the mile (5:49.00) and ran the third leg of the third place 4x800m relay (10:52.30), while junior Laura Paiva (Coventry, RI) finished in 10th place in the mile (6:18.03).

RIC sophomore Analise England (Smithfield, RI) posted a seventh place finish in the 1,000m (3:23.93) and ran the fourth leg of the third place 4x800m relay (10:52.30). Senior Rebecca Tellier (Smithfield, RI) finished in 12th place in the 1,000m (3:27.49).

  Freshman Wennely Figueroa (Providence, RI) registered a seventh place finish in the 800m (2:47.96), while freshman Bryana Mullin (Warwick, RI) was in eighth place (2:50.36) in the 800m and ran the second leg of the third place 4x800m relay (10:52.30).

 

WHATS NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to the Bowdoin Invitational Saturday, Jan. 13 (12:30 p.m.).
