WESTERN NEW ENGLAND DEFEATS RIC
WOMEN’S SWIMMING, 133-79

Springfield, Mass.-Senior Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) finished first in three events as the Rhode Island College women’s swimming team lost, 133-79, at Western New England on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Curran finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.31), 50-yard butterfly (32.04) and as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:57.08). She also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:12.90).

 

• Junior Courtney Payne (Waterford, CT) finished first in 200-yard IM (3:11.15) and as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:57.08). She also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:37.31) and as part of the 200-yard medley relay (2:32.95).

 

• Junior Madison Lane (Barrington, RI) finished first in the 500-yard freestyle (6:58.46) and as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:57.08). She also finished third in the 1,650-yard freestyle (23:53.93) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:27.01).

 

• Freshman Emily Butterfield (Cranston, RI) finished first as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:57.08). Butterfield also placed third as part of the 200-yard medley relay (2:32.95) and fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke (43.19).

 

• Sophomore Vanessa Dao (Revere, MA) placed second in both the 50-yard backstroke (34.66) and the 50-yard freestyle (30.45). She also placed third as part of the 200-yard medley relay (2:32.95) and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:08.94).

 

• Freshman Alexis Lewis (North Kingstown, RI) finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (8:45.45), fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (3:16.93) and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:29.14)

 

WHAT’S NEXT

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Westfield State on Sunday, Jan. 28 (1 p.m.) at Bryant University.
