Galli and Pora to Captain

Rhode Island College Women’s Indoor Track & Field
 

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College senior Joyelle Galli (Exeter, RI) and sophomore Joanne Pora (Attleboro, MA) will captain the women’s indoor track and field team for the 2001-02 season.

As a junior in 2000-01, Galli was named All-Alliance/Little East as part of the 4 x 200 meter relay team that placed third with a time of 1:55.57 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 3. Galli was also named All-Alliance in the long jump, placing second with a season-best leap of 4.79 meters, and in the triple jump, placing fourth with a season-high distance of 10.00 meters. She placed third in both the long and triple jumps at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 27.

She is a special education major and a 1998 graduate of Exeter-West Greenwich High School.

As a freshman in 2000-01, Pora placed 12th in the shot and 13th in the weight throw, with distances of 8.62 and 9.14 meters respectively, at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 3. Pora placed 12th in the shot and 13th in the weight throw, with distances of 8.40 and 8.82 meters respectively, at the Smith Invitational on Feb. 10. Pora placed ninth in the shot with a season-high distance of 9.18 meters at the Brandeis Invitational on Jan. 20. She placed 15th in the weight throw with a distance of 8.42 meters at the same meet.

She is a nursing major and a 1999 graduate of Attleboro High School.

The Anchorwomen will open the season at the Brown Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 1.
