Rhode Island College Spring Sports Update #1

Baseball

2-9 Overall Record; 0-0 in the Little East

Head Coach Jay Grenierís Anchormen are 2-9 overall and have yet to see action in the Little East Conference.

Senior right fielder Russ Barron (Cranston, RI) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He is batting .317 with six runs, 13 hits, five doubles, six RBI and one stolen base.

Senior catcher/designated hitter Sean McNamara (Warwick, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He is batting .314 with six runs, 11 hits, four doubles and three RBI.

Senior catcher/designated hitter Dave Quaglia (Attleboro, MA) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He is batting .317 with 11 runs, 13 hits, eight doubles and eight RBI.

Junior pitcher Dan Furtado (East Providence, RI) has appeared in five games. He is 0-2 with a 15.43 ERA and two strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched.

Junior first basemen Eric Gibree (Bristol, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He is batting .324 with eight runs, 11 hits, one double, one triple and five RBI.

Junior outfielder Marco Neves (Pawtucket, RI) has played in three games, starting one of them. He has one run scored.

Junior third basemen Brian Peer (Windsor, CT) has played in five games, starting three of them. He is batting .182 with three runs, two hits and one RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Jeremy Edwards (North Kingstown, RI) has appeared in one game. He is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA and three strikeouts in 2.0 innings pitched.

Sophomore outfielder Ryan Lynch (Newport, RI) has played in seven games, starting three of them. He is batting .200 with three runs, two hits, one double and three RBI.

Sophomore second basemen Mike Melucci (Lincoln, RI) has played in seven games, starting six of them. He is batting .115 with one run, three hits, one double, one RBI and one stolen base.

Sophomore shortstop George Serra (Westerly, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He is batting .310 with one run, nine hits, one double, four RBI and one stolen base.

Sophomore pitcher Jeff Steere (Chepachet, RI) has appeared in three games, starting two of them. He is 0-1 with a 5.11 ERA and ten strikeouts.

Freshman center fielder Kyle Benchsky (Cranston, RI) has played in 11 games, starting nine of them. He is batting .120 with six runs, three hits, one double and two RBI.

Freshman pitcher Matthew Brannon (Cranston, RI) has appeared in four games, starting two of them. He is 1-1 with a 5.11 ERA, two complete games and ten strikeouts.

Freshman outfielder Joe Cerullo (Johnston, RI) has played in six games, starting all of them. He is batting .053 with one run, one hit and three RBI.

Freshman pitcher Seth DeCorte (Chepachet, RI) has appeared in four games. He is 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA and eight strikeouts in 8.0 innings pitched.

Freshman pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has appeared in three games, starting all of them. He is 0-1 with a 6.48 ERA and 14 strikeouts.

Freshman second basemen/shortstop Michael Luke (Cranston, RI) has played in eight games, starting seven of them. He is batting .143 with three runs, four hits, one double and five RBI.

Freshman pitcher Jim Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in two games, starting both of them. He is 0-2 with a 5.52 ERA and nine strikeouts.

Freshman infielder Anthony Pacitto (Johnston, RI) has played in two games.

Freshman outfielder Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) has played in six games, starting four of them. He is batting .308 with two runs and four hits.

Freshman third basemen Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in ten games, starting all of them. He is batting .286 with seven runs, ten hits, one double, one triple and three RBI.

In upcoming action, RIC will host Framingham State on Mar. 27, Worcester State on Mar. 28 and Southern Maine on Mar. 30.

 

Softball

5-2 Overall; 0-0 in the Little East

Head Coach Maria Morinís Anchorwomen are 5-2 after their spring trip to Myrtle Beach, SC on Mar. 11-14.

Senior outfielder Keri Leighton (Providence, RI) has played in seven games, starting five of them. She is batting .333 with one run and one hit.

Senior second basemen Caitlin Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in seven games, starting six of them. She is batting .211 with six runs, four hits, one double, four RBI and one stolen base.

Junior first baseman Michele Fanelli (Pembroke Pines, FL) has played in seven games, starting all of them. She is batting .483 with seven runs, 14 hits, four doubles, one triple and 11 RBI.

Junior shortstop Melanie Miller (Warwick, RI) has played in seven games, starting all of them. She is batting .333 with five runs, nine hits, two doubles, three RBI and one stolen base.

Sophomore catcher Katie Ferreira (Rehoboth, MA) has played in four games, starting all of them. She is batting .417 with three runs, five hits and one RBI.

Sophomore centerfielder Sue Gaber (Colchester, CT) has played in seven games, starting all of them. She is batting .350 with three runs, seven hits and five RBI.

Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) has appeared in six games, starting four of them. She is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA, two complete games and 18 strikeouts in 22.0 innings. She is batting .294 with two runs, five hits, one triple and two RBI.

Freshman catcher Kristen Bartolucci (Ledyard, CT) has played in six games, starting four of them. She is batting .400 with six runs, six hits and five RBI.

Freshman third basemen/catcher Rachael Caldwell (Shannock, RI) has played in seven games, starting six of them. She is batting .348 with two runs, eight hits, one double and five RBI.

Freshman infielder Amy Machado (Newport, RI) has played in six games, starting four of them. She is batting .467 with five runs, seven hits, one double and three RBI.

Freshman outfielder Jennifer Puniello (Bristol, RI) has played in four games, starting all of them. She is batting .571 with four runs, four hits and four RBI.

Freshman infielder Aimee Reed (Pawcatuck, CT) has played in four games, starting three of them. She is batting .556 with four runs, five hits and five RBI.

Freshman pitcher/left fielder Casey Soares (Swansea, MA) has played seven games, starting all of them. She is 4-1 with a 2.36 ERA, four complete games, two shutouts and 20 strikeouts. She is batting .286 with seven runs, six hits, one triple, four RBI and one stolen base.

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Salve Regina this afternoon, host Coast Guard on Mar. 26 and host Keene State on Mar. 30.
