Five Earn All-Little East Conference Honors
for Rhode Island College Softball

 

Providence, RIóFive members of Rhode Island Collegeís softball team were named to the Little East Conference All-Star Team.

Junior first baseman Michele Fanelli (Pembroke Pines, FL) was named First Team All-Little East Conference for the second consecutive season. Fanelli has played in 35 games, starting all of them. She is batting .385 with 21 runs, 45 hits, six doubles, four triples, 25 RBI and one stolen base.

Freshman outfielder Casey Soares (Swansea, MA) was named First Team All-Little East Conference. She has played in 35 games, starting all of them. She is batting .320 with 24 runs, 33 hits, eight doubles, two triples, nine RBI and three stolen bases. As a pitcher, Soares has appeared in 15 games, starting 13 of them. She is 9-4 with a 1.62 ERA, ten complete games, two shutouts and 70 strikeouts in 82.0 innings pitched.

Sophomore Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) was named First Team All-Little East Conference as a designated player and Second Team All-Little East Conference as a pitcher. It is the second consecutive season that Warrington has earned both honors. She has appeared in 25 games, starting 22 of them. She is 14-8 with a 1.02 ERA, 20 complete games, seven shutouts, and 134 strikeouts in 151.2 innings. As a hitter, she has played in 30 games, starting 26 of them. She is batting .185 with eight runs, 15 hits, two doubles, four triples, ten RBI and two stolen bases.

Freshman third baseman Amy Machado (Newport, RI) was named Second Team All-Little East Conference. Machado has played in 34 games, starting 32 of them. She is batting .276 with 16 runs, 27 hits, one double, two triples, 15 RBI and three stolen bases.

Sophomore centerfielder Sue Gaber (Colchester, CT) was named Second Team All-Little East Conference. Gaber has played in 34 games, starting all of them. She is batting .235 with 12 runs, 20 hits and eight RBI.

Head Coach Maria Morinís team will play at Coast Guard in the first round of the ECAC Tournament on Wednesday, May 8 at 4:30 p.m. RIC is the sixth seed, while the Bears are the third seed. RIC is currently 25-12 on the year.
