Rhode Island College Softball
Advances in ECAC Tournament

 

Providence, RIóThe Rhode Island College softball team advanced in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Tournament with a 4-1 victory over third-seeded Coast Guard in the first round on Wednesday, May 8 in New London, CT.

 

The sixth-seeded Anchorwomen will play in the double-elimination semi-finals, which will be hosted by top-seeded Clark University, on Saturday, May 11. RIC will face second-seeded Endicott at noon. RIC will either play at 2 p.m. with a loss, or at 4 p.m. with a win. Clark will face fifth-seeded Fitchburg State at 10 a.m. The finals will be held on Sunday, May 12 at Clark.

 

INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS

Senior outfielder Keri Leighton (Providence, RI) has played in 28 games, starting 25 of them. She is batting .400 with one run, two hits and one RBI.

Junior first baseman Michele Fanelli (Pembroke Pines, FL) has played in 36 games, starting all of them. She is batting .372 with 22 runs, 45 hits, six doubles, four triples, 25 RBI and one stolen base.

Junior shortstop Melanie Miller (Warwick, RI) has played in 36 games, starting all of them. She is batting .225 with 17 runs, 27 hits, three doubles, six RBI and two stolen bases.

Junior second basemen Caitlin Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in 36 games, starting 35 of them. She is batting .175 with eight runs, 14 hits, one double, seven RBI and one stolen base.

Sophomore catcher/outfielder Katie Ferreira (Rehoboth, MA) has played in 18 games, starting 16 of them. She is batting .212 with five runs, seven hits and two RBI.

Sophomore centerfielder Sue Gaber (Colchester, CT) has played in 35 games, starting all of them. She is batting .241 with 12 runs, 21 hits and eight RBI.

Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) has appeared in 26 games, starting 23 of them. She is 15-8 with a 0.97 ERA, 21 complete games, seven shutouts, and 139 strikeouts in 158.2 innings. As a designated player, she has played in 31 games, starting 27 of them. She is batting .193 with nine runs, 16 hits, three doubles, four triples, 12 RBI and two stolen bases.

Freshman catcher Rachael Caldwell (Shannock, RI) has played in 36 games, starting 35 of them. She is batting .314 with 14 runs, 33 hits, nine doubles, one triple, one home run and 23 RBI.

Freshman infielder Amy Machado (Newport, RI) has played in 35 games, starting 33 of them. She is batting .267 with 16 runs, 27 hits, one double, two triples, 15 RBI and three stolen bases.

Freshman outfielder Jennifer Puniello (Bristol, RI) has played in 26 games, starting 22 of them. She is batting .328 with six runs, 20 hits and 12 RBI.

Freshman infielder Aimee Reed (Pawcatuck, CT) has played in 17 games, starting 12 of them. She is batting .289 with nine runs, 11 hits and six RBI.

Freshman pitcher/left fielder Casey Soares (Swansea, MA) has appeared in 15 games, starting 13 of them. She is 9-4 with a 1.62 ERA, ten complete games, two shutouts and 70 strikeouts in 82.0 innings pitched. As an outfielder, she has played in 36 games, starting all of them. She is batting .327 with 24 runs, 35 hits, eight doubles, two triples, nine RBI and three stolen bases.
