Menís and Womenís Track and Field to Compete
at ECAC Championships

 

Providence, RIóThe Rhode Island College menís and womenís outdoor track and field teams will compete at the ECAC Division III Championships on Thursday-Friday, May 16-17, at Springfield College. The menís team had two individual competitors and two relay teams qualify, while the womenís team has four individual qualifiers.

 

On the menís side, junior Tim Rudd (Warwick, RI) will compete in the 1,500 meters. Rudd earned All-Alliance/Little East honors with a third place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:05.34. The other individual competitor is junior Mike Daniels (Warwick, RI), who will compete in the 800 meters. Daniels earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 800 meters, placing fourth with a time of 1:58.33. Also competing at the ECAC Championships will be the 4 x 100 meter relay team of sophomore Charles Kuti (Providence, RI), junior Charm Howie (Providence, RI), freshman German Cardona (Pawtucket, RI) and freshman Chris Fernandes (Cumberland, RI) and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Rudd, Daniels, Howie and Cardona.

 

On the womenís side, the Anchorwomen have two qualifiers in the hammer throw, freshmen Rolanda Mangum (Providence, RI) and Jessica Leonard (Warwick, RI). Mangum earned All-New England honors last weekend at the New England Championships in the hammer throw, placing seventh with a distance of 145í03.00". Mangum also earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the hammer throw, placing first with a distance of 151í00.70". Leonard also earned All-Alliance/Little East honors, placing fourth with a distance of 136í06.00". Freshman Katherine McCalligett (Warwick, RI) will compete in two events, the 200 and 400 meters. McCalligett earned All-New England honors in both events, placing seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 27.13 and eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.45. McCalligett also earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in both of those events, placing first in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.45 and third in the 200 meters with a time of 27.32. Sophomore Michelle Boudreau (Lincoln, RI) will compete in the 10,000 meters after earning All-Alliance/Little East honors in that event, placing third with a time of 43:24.21.
