BILEK’S RBI SINGLE LIFTS RIC PAST USM, 2-1
Eichler Fans Seven to Earn 12th Win

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College freshman designated player Krystal Bilek’s (Fitchburg, MA) RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning gave RIC a 2-1 lead and a win at the 2005 Little East Conference Softball Tournament. RIC will play the winner of third-seeded Western Connecticut and second-seeded Keene State tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Sophomore shortstop Adora Burke (Naples, ME) led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and was advanced to second on senior third baseman Amy Machado’s (Newport, RI) ground out. Bilek belted a double to left-center field and Burke trotted home easily. Freshman pitcher Heidi Eichler (Madison, CT) threw a complete game with seven strikeouts to earn her 12th (12-7) win of the season.

USM got on the scoreboard first as freshman second baseman Evon Hudspeth (Hampden, ME) doubled in freshman left fielder Laura Pratt (Greene, ME) in the top of the fifth. RIC came right back in the bottom half of the fifth as freshman first baseman Christie Lotti (Waterford, CT) doubled in junior right fielder Andree Sitnik (Lincoln, RI).

Huskies’ junior starting pitcher Katie Mainville (Coopers Mills, ME) took the loss, falling to 3-4 on the season. Southern Maine will face sixth-seeded Plymouth State tomorrow at noon.
