Rhode Island College’s Johnafer White Earns Little East Co-Player of the Week Honors


Providence, RI—Rhode Island College junior forward Johnafer White (Boston, MA) was named the Little East Conference’s Co-Player of the Week for his performance in the Anchormen’s two victories last week. White shares the honor with sophomore Anthony Oglesby from Plymouth State.


White posted two double-doubles, averaging 19.0 points, 15.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists. White had 15 points and pulled down 18 rebounds in the 80-68 win over Southern Maine on Jan. 14. He followed that with another strong performance, scoring 23 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in RIC’s 89-86 victory over Plymouth State on Jan. 18. White also hit four free throws in the final ten seconds to seal the victory.


On the season, White has played in 14 games, starting 12 of them. He is averaging 13.1 points and 9.1 rebounds. White leads the team in rebounding and is second in scoring.


He is a management major and is a 1998 graduate of West Roxbury High School.


Head Coach Michael Kelly’s team is 10-4 overall and 3-2 in the Little East Conference. In upcoming action, the Anchormen will host Western Connecticut on Jan. 21 and Eastern Connecticut on Jan. 25.
