Kyle Teixeira Earns Little East Menís Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Honors


Providence, RIóRhode Island College sophomore forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) was named the Little East Conferenceís Menís Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for his performance at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Fall Classic on Sept. 6-7.


Teixeira tallied three goals and one assist for seven points over the weekend. He scored the clubís only goal in a 3-1 loss to SUNY-Brockport in the opening contest on Sept. 6. He led RIC with two goals, including the game-winner, and chipped in with an assist in the Anchormenís 4-3 victory over host Mass. College of Liberal Arts in the consolation game on Sept. 7.

Teixeira currently leads the team in goals and points. As a freshman in 2002, he was named All-New England, First Team All-Little East and garnered the LECís Offensive Player of the Year Award with 18 goals and five assists for 41 points in 18 games. Of the Anchormenís 11 game-winning goals, Teixeira had seven of them. He was tied for the team lead in assists. He earned two LEC Player of the Week and two Rookie of the Week selections during the season.


He is a physical education major, with a minor in health, and a 2002 graduate of Mt. Hope High School where he earned H.S. All-American honors.


Head Coach Len Mercurioís team is 1-1 on the season. In upcoming action, RIC will play at Rivier on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
