Erika Haaland Earns Little East Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week Honors

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College freshman forward Erika Haaland (North Dartmouth, MA) was named the Little East Conference’s Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week for her performance last week. It is the second such honor for Haaland this season.

Haaland tallied her third game-winning goal in dramatic fashion as she scored the lone goal in a 1-0 overtime victory over Johnson and Wales on Sept. 16. She also scored the only Anchorwomen goal in a 2-1 loss to Eastern Connecticut on Sept. 20. For the year, she has played in seven games, starting all of them. She has six goals, three game-winners, and one assist for 13 points this season. Haaland is currently tied for the league lead in points and goals.

She is a nursing major and a 2003 graduate of Dartmouth High School.

Head Coach Ryan Angel’s team is 3-4 (0-1 LEC) on the season. In upcoming action, RIC travels to Westfield State College on Wednesday, Sept. 24 and then hosts the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
