HUSKIES HOLD ON TO DEFEAT ANCHORWOMEN, 13-12
|
|
Providence, RI--The University of Southern Maine saw a
four-goal lead cut to one with 32 seconds left in the game, but held
on to defeat Rhode Island College, 13-12, in collegiate women's
lacrosse action. The Huskies improve to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the
Little East Conference with the victory. RIC falls to 4-5 overall and
remains winless at 0-3 in the LEC. |

USM
freshman Jen Carboni (Cheshire, CT) came off the bench to lead
all scorers with five goals. Freshman Elicia Biczak (Standish, ME)
had two goals and two assists for four points. Freshmen Sarah Trent
(Chanhassen, MN) and Justene Larnerd (Cherry Hill, NJ) each
scored twice in the win. Freshman goalie Jenna Wasylak (Dunstable,
MA) made 10 saves to earn the win. |

RIC put on
a furious comeback attempt, scoring three goals in the final 5:42 to
trim USM's lead to one. Sophomore Crystal Colagiovanni (Johnston,
RI) had four goals, while junior Danielle Beaudry (West
Greenwich, RI), sophomore Jessica Maher (Warwick, RI) and
senior Rachel Pecoraro (Smithfield, RI) each scored twice.
Freshman goalkeeper Micaela Morris (Barrington, RI) made 12
saves in a losing effort. |

In upcoming
action, RIC will three consecutive home games, beginning with Plymouth
State on Saturday, Apr. 17, Castleton State on Sunday, Apr. 18 and
Roger Williams on Monday, Apr. 19. |
