We, Abby Ferri and Liz Shields, have been on the Rhode Island College womenís basketball team since the 2000-01 season.  We are currently in the middle of our fourth season with a new head coach, Spencer Manning, who arrived this year, Carl Sabo, a second year assistant coach, and Christine Donilon, a first year assistant coach.  All three coaches have been working extremely hard to improve the teamís reputation and status in the Little East Conference.

We are currently 10-7 overall, and 4-4 in conference play.  As of right now, we are in third place and are striving to maintain, or exceed, that position.  Statistically, this is the best team we have had the opportunity to play on in our four years.  We are not looking forward to leaving this team. It would have been a pleasure to grow and learn with this current group of Anchorwomen players and coaches. We have a lot of young players on our team but with the help our upperclassmen, coaching staff and the talent we all possess, all our goals are attainable.

Our season started off with a second place finish in the Salem State Tip-off Tournament.  From there we have gone both up and down.  As a team though, we have learned to not dwell on the negative but focus on the positive. For instance, our team played an excellent game against Pine Manor in which we scored a total of 91 points, something that has not been accomplished since the 1998-99 season.  Also, we upset Plymouth State in our two games versus them this year.  The first time we played, we defeated the Panthers by one-point in double overtime at home. Our second matchup against PSU, which we won by 18 points on the road, proved that our team has the strength and ability to outplay a team as strong as they are.  This showing proved to other teams in our conference what they should be prepared for when they to play against us.

We are sad that this season is nearing the finish.  However, we are looking forward to playing Keene State again, whom we beat by only three points, with two seconds left in the game.  We are also looking forward to playing the two top teams in the LEC, Southern Maine and Eastern Connecticut.  We are ready to show them that we are a team that they are going to see in the playoffs and should prepare heavily for.  We still have a lot to do in terms of working hard to make each of the younger players better for the remainder of this season as well as future seasons to come.

We would like to thank everyone who has helped us along our four-year journey here on the Rhode Island College womenís basketball team.  The Athletic Department has worked hard to make every season a memorable one.  They have exceeded the standards when they prepare for each game and make sure that all the athletes are taken care of.  It has shown how proud they are to have this team excel in such a challenging conference.  Because of our new teammates, and especially our new coaches this year, we are proud that our senior year will be the most memorable of our careers.  Those individuals will make leaving just that much harder, and we would both like to thank them for that.  We hope they appreciate our hard work, dedication, and effort just as much as we appreciate them showing up on the court with us everyday.  We are very proud of our accomplishments as a team this year, but hopefully we will accomplish much more by the time the season comes to a close.
