Rhode Island Collegeís Spencer Manning Named Little East Conference
Womenís Basketball Co-Coach of the Year

Providence, RIóRhode Island College womenís basketball head coach Spencer Manning was named the 2003-04 Little East Conference Women's Basketball Co-Coach of the Year. Manning shares the honor with University of Southern Maine head coach Gary Fifield.

In his first season at the helm this year, Manning led the Anchorwomen to a 16-11 overall record and a 7-7 mark in conference play, which was good for third place. The third-place finish in the LEC was the highest such finish for RIC since 1997-98. The Anchorwomen earned the right to host a first-round conference game, which had not occurred since the 1998-99 season. The team's 16 overall wins and seven conference victories were the most since the 1998-99 squad won 17 overall games and eight conference contests. Also, the 16 wins this season are one more than the amount of wins that RIC has compiled in the past three years combined.

Additionally, Manning led the squad to a bit of Division III history this winter. Last seasonís squad finished the 2002-03 campaign with a 3-23 record compared to this winterís 16-11 mark. The one-year turnaround of 12.5 games is the fourth-best improvement in NCAA Division III Womenís Basketball history.
