Kyle Teixeira Earns Little East Conference Player of the Week Honors in Men’s Soccer


Providence, RI—Rhode Island College junior forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) was named the Little East Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in three games last week.


Teixeira found the back of the net often last week as he tallied five goals and added one assist for 11 points in a 2-1 week for the Anchormen. He collected his second hat trick of the year, scoring three goals in a, 5-1, conference victory over Eastern Connecticut. Teixeira scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a, 3-2, comeback victory over Johnson & Wales.


On the season, Teixeira has played in six games, starting all of them. He has nine goals and one assist for 19 points on the season. Teixeira’s nine goals give him 51 goals and 108 points for his career. Teixeira is now 11 goals and 33 points shy of RIC all-time career goals and points leader Domenico Petrarca (‘73-‘76).


He is a physical education/health major and a 2002 graduate of Mt. Hope High School.


Head Coach John Mello’s team is 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the Little East Conference. In action last week, the Anchormen defeated Johnson and Wales, 3-2, on Tuesday, Sept. 14. RIC lost on the road to Connecticut College, 3-2, on Thursday, Sept. 16. The Anchormen then opened up LEC play and defeated Eastern Connecticut, 5-1, at home on Sunday, Sept. 19.
