Sherri Heard Earns Little East Conference Womenís Volleyball Rookie of the Week Honors


Providence, RIóRhode Island College freshman middle hitter Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) was named the Little East Conference Womenís Volleyball Rookie of the Week for her performance last week.


The rookie helped the Anchorwomen to a 3-1 week as she compiled 36 kills, seven blocks and nine service aces in 14 games. In a victory over UMass-Dartmouth, Heard totaled 11 kills, four digs and four blocks. For the season, she has played in 39 games in 11 matches. She has 69 kills (1.77/game), a .201 hitting percentage, nine service aces (0.23/game) three assists (0.08/game) and 25 blocks (0.64/game).


She is a physical education major and a 2004 graduate of Coventry High school.


Head Coach Craig Letourneauís Anchorwomen are 3-8 overall and 2-1 in the Little East Conference. RIC snapped a seven-match losing streak with a, 3-0, win over WPI on Wednesday, Sept. 15. The Anchorwomen then participated in the first LEC Round Robin of the season, held at UMass-Dartmouth on Sept. 17-18, and went 2-1. The Anchorwomen defeated UMass-Boston and UMass-Dartmouth, 3-1, respectively, before losing to Eastern Connecticut, 3-0, in their final match of the weekend.
