Anchorwomen off to best start in school history

            Providence, RIóFreshman Melissa Reggio (Commack, NY) snapped a 6-6 tie with 51 seconds left in regulation to lift Rhode Island College past Salve Regina, 7-6, in collegiate womenís lacrosse action on Monday afternoon. The Anchorwomen are 3-0 overall and are off to the best start in the programís history. Salve Regina is in the midst of a three-game losing streak and falls to 1-3 on the season.

 

In addition to the game-winner, Reggio assisted on RICís fifth and sixth goals of the game for a three-point effort. Sophomore Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) led the Anchorwomen offensively with three goals and one assist for four points. Senior Danielle Beaudry (West Greenwich, RI) had two goals and freshman Leah Hayes (Coventry, RI) netted her first collegiate goal in the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Micaela Morris (Barrington, RI) made eight saves to improve her record to 3-0.

 

Senior Selina Rano (West Hartford, CT) led Salve Regina with two goals. Junior goalkeeper Brooke Bowley (Hollis, ME) made 15 saves and falls to 1-3 on the season.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, Apr. 6 at 3:30 p.m.
