UMASS DARTMOUTH SNUFFS OUT RIC, 14-8
Anchorwomen suffer first conference loss

Providence, RI—UMass Dartmouth downed Rhode Island College, 14-8, in a battle of Little East Conference women’s lacrosse rivals on Wednesday afternoon. The Corsairs jumped all over the Anchorwomen in the first half, outshooting them 20-6, as they took a 7-1 lead into half-time. RIC tried to come back in the second frame, but UMD’s offense kept the lead just out of the Anchorwomen’s reach. The Corsairs improve to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Little East, while RIC falls to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the LEC.

Senior Katelyn Elliot (Lowell, MA) and freshman Marie Spang (Wakefield, MA) led the Corsairs offensively with six and four goals, respectively. Junior Mary Doherty (Loundonville, NY) scored three times and freshman Leanne Canillas (New City, NY) tallied once to round out the squad’s scoring. Doherty chipped in with an assist for a four-point effort. Senior goalkeeper Liz Holland (Quincy, MA) earned the win, making seven stops before giving way to freshman Erin Doherty (West Newbury, MA) for the final 14:14 of the game.

RIC sophomore Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) had three goals and one assist for four points in a losing effort. Freshman Melissa Reggio (Commack, NY) had two goals and an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Micaela Morris (Barrington, RI) made 12 saves in a losing effort.
